PRINCIPALS

Jeff Bishop has 15 years of high-level management consulting, public policy advocacy, and environmental program management experience. He has worked for and on behalf of the San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the United States Agency of International Development (USAID), and the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce. He earned a Masters in International Management (MBA equivalent) from The University of California, San Diego. He has completed the Master Composter program, the Composter Operator Training course from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and the Soil Food Web Intensive with Dr. Elaine Ingham. His passion is using ecologically based approaches to create sustainable reform in waste, energy, food, and health systems.

JamieAccettaJamie Accetta is a commercial general contractor and owner of a design-build firm. He brings 15 years experience and an acute awareness of corporate and commercial environments.  Jamie’s experience in meeting various health, safety, and building code requirements as well as logistical considerations allows the system design team at Sustainable Solutions to translate the knowledge and practice of organic waste recycling into our clients’ atmosphere. He is a Master Composter and has completed the Compost Operator Training course from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

TECHNICAL ADVISORY TEAM

rflammer330dpiRich Flammer has 25 years of hands-on composting experience and has designed, managed, permitted, evaluated, and/or remediated more than 75 large-scale composting facilities for both private and public sector clients. He has been involved in public policy formation, rulemaking development for state composting regulation, composting technology assessment and development, and regional studies evaluating organic resource management. Rich does frequent outreach work, writes instructional manuals, promotional materials, editorial pieces, and gives lectures and workshops on a regular basis. He has designed three permanent home composting exhibits, appeared in two instructional videos, and is Contributing Editor of the BioCycle Journal of Composting & Organics Recycling.

David Emmerson is an AP Chemistry teacher at La Costa Canyon High School. He has successfully built a composting and vermicomposting program for the San Dieguito Union HS District. In this role, he leads crews of high school students to successfully process over 200 pounds of organic waste each day.  He also has consulted for and run workshops for four schools in the Encinitas Union School District. He is a Master Composter Instructor.

1396054David Forney earned his PhD from the mechanical engineering department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has authored 4 peer-reviewed articles on organic matter decomposition.
